Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Erskineville continues to develop local community links by working with our parish and local community groups. Each year, local businesses donate their goods and services very generously towards our fundraising efforts and regularly support our bi-annual school musical/concert.
As part of the school’s leadership ministries, Years 5 and 6 are given opportunities to organise and facilitate various fundraising initiatives to support church charities such as Mini Vinnies, Caritas and Sisters of Mercy Foundation. This commitment to outreach allows the students to live out the Mercy values of our school.
