History
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Erskineville has a rich history dating back to over a century when it was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1887. The school has been on its current site since 1912 and was operated under the leadership of the Sisters until 2007.
Charism
Our charism is founded in the spirit of Catherine McAuley—the founder of the Sisters of Mercy—and the Mercy values which nurture the growth of the whole person spiritually, intellectually and morally.
We are proud of our deep connection with the Sisters of Mercy and the legacy created by Catherine McAuley. The Mercy values of service, respect, compassion, justice, courage and hospitality guide our policies and practices and are embedded in our pedagogical principles. In the value of hospitality, our community is always welcome to come in and enjoy a cup of tea with us.
Collaboration and respect are very much part of the school’s ethos and support our vision that all students should experience success.
Mission
We ensure that our children grow in the knowledge and understanding of their faith and experience a caring and nurturing community that celebrates life, reaches out to others and actively cares for the world.
We develop a love of learning by providing a curriculum that is relevant and challenging, and our teaching practices adapt to meet the individual learning needs of students. We enhance our facilities to ensure a safe, pleasant and happy learning environment.
We recognise achievements, nurture gifts and talents, serve others and form connections and partnerships with one another and our greater community for mutual enrichment.
